GENERAL INFORMATION

What is the debra Care Conference (DCC)?

The debra Care Conference (formerly known as the Patient Care Conference) is a national conference specifically designed for the Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) Community and is held every two years in different cities across the US. debra of America invites those with EB as well as their families, advocates, and care providers to listen to, meet with, and learn from leading medical professionals as well as academic researchers and organizations who are conducting research into treatments and a cure for EB. Bandage manufacturers and distributors also attend and demonstrate their products and services.

Most importantly, the conference allows those impacted by EB to meet new families and reconnect with others from around the country. debra of America also organizes playrooms and fun activities for the children while providing ample socializing time for the adults.

Approximately 600 people attend our conference, making it the largest gathering of the EB Community globally!

Who should attend this conference?

The debra Care Conference (DCC) benefits the entire EB Community and offers learning opportunities for individuals and families as well as medical professionals interested in learning more about EB care. Sessions cover topics that aid in the overall health and well-being of an individual with EB. There is also time built-in to network, connect and have fun with peers! Whether you and your family are attending for the first time, or have attended many of our conferences in the past, you will find the DCC rewarding.

When and where is the conference?

The 2018 debra Care Conference will be held will be held July 22-25th (with hotel stays until the 26th) at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, 5594 W. Wild Horse Pass Blvd., Chandler, AZ 85226. Our conference is typically held in July to accommodate different school start/end dates nationwide and the location is chosen to be easily accessible and cost-effective. This venue is an all indoor, temperature controlled luxury resort, located 11 miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Tell me more about the venue.

The Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass is Arizona’s premier Native American owned luxury Phoenix Resort. Designed to be an authentic representation of the Gila River Indian Community’s heritage and culture, the architecture, design, art and legends of the Pima and Maricopa tributes are celebrated in every detail at this Phoenix resort.

This hotel and conference space is an indoor, temperature controlled venue. For more information about the resort, visit their web site.

What is the conference dress code?

As long as you are comfortable, we are happy! There is no specific dress code for the conference. Please be sure to avoid attire with any inappropriate language or images. If you would like to order EB awareness related apparel prior to the conference, click here to browse our online shop!

REGISTRATION AND OVERVIEW

How do I register?

Registration may be completed online or by calling 212-868-1573, ext. 102.

For individuals who have EB or have a member of their immediate household with EB: click here to register. For all other registrants: click here.

What is included in registration and what is the cost?

debra of America offers EB Families an all-inclusive rate of $150 per night (which covers up to 4 people). Our full registration package is for 4 nights. At this all-inclusive rate, you and your family will receive:

  • Hotel stay (for up to 4 people) at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass.
  • Welcoming dinner on Sunday, and 3 meals a day Monday through Wednesday
  • All-Entry Passes to the full conference program, which includes:
    • Latest and most comprehensive EB Care information from the country’s leading EB clinicians
    • Research updates from the top academic researchers and organizations heading current and future clinical trials
    • Assistance through the transitional, financial and emotional challenges of EB
    • Access to a wide range of service providers, including wound care manufacturers
    • Designated play areas and live entertainment for the kids during the span of the conference
    • Family-friendly functions and evening entertainment
    • Printed materials and related supplies
    • Opportunity to meet other families and individuals who share the common bond of EB and make life-long connections
    • And more!

    The General Attendee Fee for Non-EB Families is $225 per night for the same benefits as described above. Both rates are drastically reduced from the full cost of the conference, in thanks to our generous sponsors and supporters!

    Please note, self-parking at this venue is free.

    What meals are covered?

    Please refer to the chart below for the 10 confirmed meals that debra of America will be providing during the conference:

    These meals are included as part of your conference package, meaning the registration fee covers these meals. Therefore, you will not be charged extra at the conference for the meals listed above. Please note, at this time debra of America is not providing breakfast or lunch on Sunday, July 22 and is not providing any meals on Thursday, July 26.

    What kind of entertainment is covered?

    The debra Care Conference provides designated play areas and free entertainment for children through-out the span of the conference when the general educational sessions are open. Structured family-friendly functions and activities are also offered during various times. In the past, entertainment for the children have included:

    • Wacky Science Shows
    • Performing Monkeys
    • Visiting Super Heroes
    • Storybook Time
    • and more!

    In addition to the special entertainment listed above, arts and crafts supplies, games, and other toys are provided for the children in the Kids Room.

    Previous family-friendly functions have included:

    • Adult and Child Movie Nights
    • Evening Receptions
    • Painting Sessions
    • and more!

    All Kids Room and family-friendly entertainment will be listed in the conference agenda and are included as part of your all-inclusive registration package.

    Do I have to register for the entire conference and stay all 4 nights?

    debra of America encourages staying all 4 nights to get the most out of the conference, but options to stay for less time is available. Please refer to your appropriate registration web page and review the “Other Options” section, where you may select the specific dates you’d like to attend.

    What if I live in the area and want to attend the conference but do not need the hotel stay?

    Individuals with EB who would like to attend the conference and do not need a hotel room are admitted free of charge. Family members, friends, caregivers and/or clinicians who would like to attend are charged a fee of $25 per person for each day they would like to attend. Attendees will have access to the full conference program, kids rooms, social activities, entertainment and provided meals on each day you register for.

    Registration for the conference is mandatory. If you would like to register as an attendee without a hotel room, please email dcc [at] debra [dot] org and/or call 212-868-1573 ext. 102 to begin the registration process.

    Why does your registration form ask for information on all members of my party? Can I just register myself on behalf of my entire family/group?

    In order for us to properly assist and serve all those attending our conference, every member of your party must be registered. Registration allows us to plan the conference sessions appropriately, pay for provided meals and other associated events, and track conference attendance.

    Registration for the conference is mandatory. Each attendee will receive their all-entry pass to the conference and related activities upon check-in at the DCC.

    PAYMENT

    How do I pay?

    Upon filling out your online registration form, you are encouraged to pay immediately by clicking the “Credit Card” button. Attendees who are unable to immediately pay in full may set up a recurring payment schedule that will be linked to their credit cards.  You may choose this option by clicking the “Bill Me Later” button, and will receive an email with instructions on how to set up the payment schedule upon completion of the form. Please note, all payments must be made by May 15, 2018 or your registration will be cancelled.

    I chose the “Bill Me Later” option and have not yet set up payment for my registration, what do I do?

    All registrants will receive a confirmation email upon completion of the registration form with instructions on setting up a recurring payment schedule if you have not already paid in full. If you would like to set-up a recurring payment schedule over the phone or discuss your payment plan further, please call 212-868-1573, ext. 102 or email: jason [at] debra [dot] org

    When is the deadline for registering and paying?

    Registration opens for all on January 17th and will remain open until maximum capacity is reached. Space is limited and we are expecting to be sold out, so please register as soon you can. When registration becomes full, we will create a waiting list for those who still want to sign up. Registration officially closes May 15, 2018 and all payments must be made by this date.

    If full payment is not received by May 15, 2018, your registration will be cancelled and credit card processing fees will be applied.

    If I can’t make it to the conference, can I get a refund?

    debra of America is able to cancel your registration and provide a refund up until May 15, 2018 (credit card charges incurred for cancellation process will be charged). Beyond that date, we are unable to give refunds because costs relating to hotel stays, meals, and other conference-related expenses have already been incurred.

    Is financial aid available?

    debra of America’s goal to bring as many families together for this experience as possible. To help alleviate the costs involved for each attendee, all registration rates are discounted and drastically reduced from full cost of the conference and hotel stay. Beyond this, we are unable to offer additional financial aid for families.

    The Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass is Arizona’s premier Native American owned luxury Phoenix Resort, located at 5594 W. Wild Horse Pass Blvd., Chandler, AZ 85226. Chandler is 15 miles from downtown Phoenix. Designed to be an authentic representation of the Gila River Indian Community’s heritage and culture, the architecture, design, art and legends of the Pima and Maricopa tributes are celebrated in every detail at this Phoenix resort.

    How many people are allowed in each hotel room at Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass?

    This hotel allows up to 4 people per one hotel room (a fifth person is allowed ONLY if they are an infant that will be sleeping in a crib).

    Can I have adjoining rooms at the hotel?

    After you register, please email dcc [at] debra [dot] org to let us know you’d like adjoining rooms and the names of the primary registrant of each room, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

    What if I want to stay extra nights before or after the conference?

    debra of America’s discounted conference rate only applies to the conference dates (July 22 through July 25, with check-out July 26th). If you require rooms earlier or later than the dates included in our room block, please be aware that regular hotel rates may apply. You may contact dcc [at] debra [dot] org to request to coordinate your longer stay.

    Does this venue have parking?

    Yes, self-parking is available for free.

    Is there Wifi?

    There is unlimited internet access (wired and wireless) in guest rooms and lobby areas. This does not apply to conference area.

    Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

    Yes, the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass is wheelchair accessible.

    What are the hotel amenities?

    What is the closest airport?

    This venue is an all indoor, temperature controlled luxury resort, located 11 miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

    Is there a shuttle from the airport to the hotel?

    The hotel does not offer shuttle service, but recommends a variety of travel services to/from the airport and hotel. Please refer to transportation options here. Uber and similar car service options are also available; list is not exhaustive.

    I am renting a car at the airport, do you have rental car information and directions?

    What is the conference agenda?
